Today I watched the pink sunrise at 4am. I seem to wake up every morning at that time. It promised to be another beautiful day but as the day progressed it became more and more overcast with the occasional raindrop. Today we had a late start because it was laundry day. At 1pm we set off for our daily drive. The road towards the southeast of the Gaspe undulated gently over hills with the gulf of St Lawrence as a constant companion on our left. Like in previous days we passed through many picturesque villages each of them with their own lofty spired church but unlike yesterday we had no hair-raising grades or S-curves, at the most 9%. For lunch on our last day in Quebec, we had poutine again. During our trip during la belle province, we learned a few new French words: gite - bed and breakfast, depanneur - convenience store, desembossage - collision repair, resto - restaurant, and ferme - meaning the rest stop in every village and it's toilets are closed. We had hoped to make it to Bathurst by nightfall but the GPS guided us to a lonely gravel road 20km out of town. Using old-fashioned orienteering and map skills, we found our way.
